After eating breakfast on Friday morning, I made a notation in my “Memo” app at 9:39am about the Filipino word for bowl: “soo-leh-yow”. Now the Filipino word for an iron pan/skillet is “koo-wah-leh”.
If I ever get a chance to record an audio, it would have sounded like someone crying out to a beloved in a romantic film/movie/show, namely Korean, if you will. It so happens “Koo Wah Lee” is a black man who fell in love with his Asian bride during a raid on her hometown.
“Soo Lee Yow! Soo Lee Yow! Please don’t leave me! I love you! Soo Lee Yow! Come back to me!”~Cried “Koo Wah Lee” on the death bed of his beloved wife, exactly one year of his wedding anniversary.

After eating dinner on Thursday night, we three were cleaning up. I rushed up to the sink and started to wash the dishes, not that I’m trying to prove my worth or hogging the chores, but that’s just automatic for me. Then Maw came up from behind me and said the Filipino word for strength: “see-pagh.” Of course, I was playing “hard of hearing” and my mind created words, such as “sea-fag” or even “sea-hag.” As expected, the elderly couple doesn’t laugh but perhaps crack a smile.
