I never really liked Facebook. It’s a time waster. I found myself checking my account constantly only to find my wall empty, except for my own posts. No one really communicated with me. I found myself being alone on a site, hoping and waiting for someone, anyone to offer a friendly greeting.
When I first signed up, I didn’t like how I had to agree to publicize my real name. But I agreed and tested the waters. Though there are private settings and other security features, I really don’t trust a site where all my data is kept. It’s nothing like a diary and more than unsettling.
Later I learned that Facebook is a CIA front, collecting/monitoring/tracking Facebook users, who really don’t believe they are compromising their privacy. They simply don’t care since they believe they are not doing anything wrong. I was truly shocked at their relaxed attitudes.
I noticed how Facebook is being used to cover-up many unfavorable aspects of people’s lives that only close family members wouldn’t dare share outside the home. Many times people harmlessly post images or text, only to be misunderstood by those who really don’t know the person or what is going on.
What was supposed to be an interactive tool connecting family and friends, Facebook didn’t meet my expectations. Initially, I tried to add my ungrateful relatives living in the Bay Area but they either ignored me or refused to add me as a friend. Even my younger brother blocked me after posting one “truth”.
From then on, I vowed never to return to Facebook. It’s a social networking site for narcissists who pose as positive role models for those who don’t know their “true colors” or care to know of their troubles like any imperfect human beings faced with reality.
Unfortunately, Facebook will be around for a long time and offer people a chance to share many things online what they normally should do in person. The dynamics online is nothing compared to seeing and hearing the person in the same room.
I’m truly disgusted with Facebook. It’s a scourge on society.
