Weekly Writing Challenge: Listen to the Voices in Your Head | by michelle w. on August 20, 2012
At 1600, I heard my smart/cellphone. Buzz! Buzz! Buzz! At that time, I was wearing my earplugs and listening to a YouTube video. The volume of the “speakers” was NOT too loud because I still heard the little electronic device buzzing. After the third to fourth buzz, I lowered my eyes to the screen and saw a reminder alert for “Mom’s afternoon meds”.
Had it not been for a simple reminder alert, Maw would have not taken those pills, which help her high blood pressure and hypertension. She sometimes forget to take her pills and without my assistance and sometimes take her afternoon pills late in the day. She would feel “funny” without those pills and experience a racing/palpitating heart and the sensation of pressure or fullness in her head.
You see, she is busy sewing in her eleven inch zipper, which she bought from a nearby store called “Fabric R Us”. The zipper is for the fifth/last hand-embroidered pillow cover of mostly red petals/flowers and green leaves/stems. We still have the original plastic covers to keep the pillows nice and clean. One day, we could be brave enough remove the plastic covers and feel the soft pillow covers against our heads.
“Momma love you!” she said as she hugged me in gratitude. I knew that the burden of responsibility lies on my shoulders. After purchasing two funeral arrangements last Thursday, she didn’t take her afternoon pills until dinnertime. I vowed to avoid that mistake again by setting up a simple alert to remind me of reoccurring events. I too am becoming forgetful and having a smart/cellphone helps.
