- conditions contrary to fact: If I were judge/jury/executioner/God, I would have damned him to jail time in Hell for eternity… (You’re not and there’s no chance you could be, so it’s contrary to fact.)
- suppositions: If I were to hire a lawyer within ten days of default for the first contractual agreement, I might be rich… (It’s factually possible but not certain; maybe you’re not going to get everything as promised/guaranteed.)
- wishes: I wish that I weren’t held hostage by the Illuminati with no money. (Whatever you “wish” for ain’t gonna happen!)
- demands: I demanded through a couple of “Demand Letters” that he give me back all MY hard-earned pennies… (The relevant subjunctive verb here is “he give,” which would normally be “he gives”.)
- suggestions: I suggested that he consider giving me back all MY hard-earned pennies… (The relevant subjunctive verb here is “he consider,” which would normally be “he considers”.)
- statements of necessity: It’s essential that he get me out of this virtual prison… (“he get” rather than “he gets”)
