I remember riding the yellow school bus. The travel was long and everyday the bus river (an old man) would pick us up to elementary school and dropped us off, where I'd run home about 1/8 of a mile.
The green-colored seats were leather and no cushion offered comfort: it was flat. The metal backings of the seat looked strong enough but offered no safety feature of seatbelts.
In middle schol, a Mexicana drove the bus very well, chewed her gum all the while and smoothed her short, spikey hair. She had a daughter who attended school with us.
