In response to The Daily Post’s writing prompt: “History of Language. | Write a piece of fiction describing the incident that gave rise to the phrase, “third time’s the charm.”
Good Flynn: I’m not familiar with this phase but I’d imagine that it take three times to get the correct results, meaning a wink to get the admirer’s attention, a smile to confirm his friendliness, and that affirmative nod to approach.
Evil Kitty: Silly, girl! It means if a friendly meow doesn’t work, and if a warning hiss doesn’t work, and a few swipes of the paw doesn’t work, then a quick get away is the final answer. This method is far safer around dogs.
