After finishing breakfast past 9:30am this morning, I donned my mask, gardening gloves and got Paw’s spade shovel and proceeded to dig up the top layer of loose soil, which Maw watered down late last evening. For another one hour, I managed to get the other plot of soil ready for SEVEN cubic feet bags of topsoil. (Yesterday we used up 13 cubic feet bags of topsoil for our flower beds.) This smaller plot has been completed at around 1:00pm and has Maw’s vegetables of three eggplants and two pepper plants. The TALL, white-colored, lillies are behind and anchor the front yard VERY nicely from a FAR distance.
However, since David from “CDIF” came by AGAIN to set up his trap for to capture/count Japanese beetles. We were not able to finish up faster in two hours. So from around 11:30pm to 12:30pm, he “killed time” by talking to us about his personal life and how he wanted to look for a woman (Sugar Mama) to take care of him. He was holding a vibrant, purple-colored flower as a ground cover, which he picked from elsewhere, and showed us what he wanted on his yard but couldn’t figure out the name. He went on how he was a former Marine and cop; how is daughter is a police depatcher; how his son is a teacher and how he has three grandchildren (with the third on its way).
He is a bald, Mexicano and came from the violent neighborhood, which made headlines recently on tourists. He told of how he was raised by his mother initially until she sent him to live with his relatives in Santa Clara,CA; he played in a ditch of water, which was full of dead cats and dogs when he was six years old; the difficulty of getting his “Certificate of Citizenship” because they wouldn’t believe his mother is a US citizen; getting along with his cousins (who are in and out of jail) better than his own siblings, etc. Maw got tired of hearing the same story.
We learned that Mexicans living in Mexico don’t celebrate on Cindo de Mayo but on September 16. He will have his drinks today and later on. The areas off King, Story and Tully are popular areas for celebration. And I knew that already (not that I “really” know). He went on to mention other “segregated” areas and that is not uncommon, of course. But
