Does watching violent movies inspire violence in the real world?
Yes, violence begets violence, fictional or otherwise. And that’s where movies come into play. Viewers are exposed to these images along with audio to illicit emotions. While the viewers are in a relaxed state of mind, of course, who wouldn’t be with the darkened theater, soft cushioned lounge-like chairs, and general ambiance of togetherness, the psyche is ripe and ready to be ripped opened and shredded into tiny bits of edible morsels of shock and awe. Upon that initial jolt from a relaxation to awakening, that moment could imprint into the most malleable minds impressions of violence.
And depending how psychotic a viewer may act upon such violent stimuli, those may have been the works of mind-controlled victims. It’s hard to say if such outlets for violence were drug-induced by hypno-the-rapists or by other means such as stupidity. One could assume that the world is full of crazy people and only those cray enough would act out such violence upon others.
Also, whatever happens with film violence, it is a reflection of society’s deeper issues with repressed aggression. We live in a world where peace is kept through tax-paid officers and not by the taking of the law in one’s own hands. The ancient programming of “fight and flight” is still very strong and society is sick because the normal outlet for expressing one’s sentiment towards an “enemy” is simply processed out and silenced by “clerks”.
