I received “A Minute with Mike – Monthly Newsletter” via email. I thought I’d share the following questionnaire:
“I would appreciate knowing your opinion. Do you support or oppose tea party conservatives in Congress shutting down the federal government to repeal the health care law?”
- I answered “Opposed” because an old imagery came to mind about the caretakers and the care of certain animals.
- I would have answered “Support” because I would like the health care law repealed. However, this would go against my initial “idea/request”.
- I didn’t like the loaded question regarding “tea party conservatives”. I’m still confused with the word “progressive” and “liberal”.

I visited the site and found at least one of two answers to my concern:
Do I have to use Covered California to get Health Insurance?
No. You are able to go through Covered California or directly to your health insurer, but you will pay the same premium. In order to get a subsidy, however, you must go through Covered California.
So, duh, I “knew” that! Or at least, I had a “feeling” that I could directly/visit the website to one of many health insurance providers based on the suggestion via CoveredCalifornia.com after plugging in the data.
I would prefer buying the best to get the best items and services rendered but since:
“Medi-Cal is expanding to cover people under age 65, including people with disabilities, with income of less than $15,000 for a single individual and $31,180 for a family of four. The coverage is free for those who qualify and part of the provisions of the Affordable Care Act.”
So this particular webpage is VERY clear and I understood what I needed to do. But it didn’t tell me if I should exclude “household income” to qualify for government subsidies.
