Once again, I’m bored and had to try out yet another Premium Theme. This time it is:

Debut by Press75.com

An eye-catching multimedia theme featuring a unique content carousel and responsive gallery style layout. Read more about Debut →

Likes:

  • Default gray color and readability of fonts.
  • Three customized top/menu bars.
    • Top Menu.
    • Primary Menu.
    • Action Menu.
  • Choice between left/right sidebar (or none if widgets are not used).
  • No tags or categories for each blog post!
  • Links of date/time stamp and author underneath post title!
  • Three footer/bottom/column bars for widgets!
  • Three more “side” bars for widgets!
    • Widgets shown on multiple post pages.
    • Widgets shown on single post pages.
    • Widgets shown on page pages.
  • Six Theme Options.
    • Logo & Header.
    • Layout Options.
    • Blog.
    • Hero Slider.
    • Featured Content.
    • Footer (which I do NOT use because of the “network” locking down on OUR privacy/id-entities)!!!
  • Basic background to change color. A rose pink won’t look good without the ability change link color!

Cons:

  • I’ll get bored again.

Debut: Theme Options – Hero Slider | 2012/03/08 11:15:35 AM | Last edited by FLYNN B on 20120308 at 11:29:35 AM PDT

In my slowness, I discovered an “untested” feature to the “Debut” theme. So last night I tried the “horizontal” direction for the slideshow and that’s perfect for a “book” as long as the speed of the “Slide” is slow. A “Fade” looks better with the “vertical” direction. The rest is easy

  • Category | Position of the title and content — I’m using my “Quote” as the category for the “slideshow”.
  • Content Position | Color of hero content area. — I’m using “Centered” with “Left Side”, “Right Side” and “Hide” as other positions for the slideshow.
  • Content Color| Disable slideshow (auto advance). — I’m using the “Light Text/Dark Background” with “Dark Text/Dar Background” and two others with “No Background” as other colors.
  • Disable Slideshow | Choose a direction in which the slides should animate. — I’m using the slideshow and therefore didn’t check-off the little box.
  • Slide Direction | Choose a type of animation for each slide transition. — I’m using the “Vertical” direction for now with the “Horizontal” direction for a faux “book” later.
  • Slide Animation | Speed (in seconds) at which the slides will animate between transitions. — I’m using the “Slide” animation for now with the “Fade” animation for later.
  • Slide Animation Speed | Time (in seconds) before transitioning to the next slide. — It’s default to two seconds.
  • Slideshow Speed | Number of posts to display in slider. — It’s default to six seconds.
  • Slide Count — I’m using 15 slides like the maximum number of 15 Recent Comments, for example.

“You can choose to only show a specific category for the blog. Defaults to all categories.”

For the “Debut” theme, originally I used the “Category” to “Uncategorized”, which is the first category tag (i.e. “category&tag_ID=1”). This is a default/good/nice/starter Category for any AND all your blog entries, in case you decide to clean up/not your your categories/tags.

Let’s see: Right now, I’m using the “Ephemeral” category to feed the “Blog” page, meaning the most recent blog entry will be seen via the “Recent Post” widget located in the side/bottom/footer bar(s) and/or the RSS Feeds. So those who browsing/trolling my weblog via the “Standard View”, the main/home/front page is a static/fixed page showing the howdy/welcome/hello world.

Addendum: This entry was a messed up “Draft” from the “New Post” feature.

You are being “evil”, Flynn. Most people prefer reading the recent posts and don’t have the time or care to click the “Blog” page or browse the “Archives” or search the “Calendar” and “Categories” widgets.

Here are my personal settings for the Theme Options > Featured Content of my Premium Paid theme “Debut”:

  • Category | Select which category should be shown in the hero area. — I had to create :parent: category, “Media” so the four “children” categories – Audio, Gallery, Image and Video
  • Post Count | Number of featured posts to display per page. Use -1 to show all posts. — I’m using the default post count of 9.
  • Default View | Default layout of posts — I’m using the “Grid” layout, which is showing only six. The “List” layout will show the images to the left and the contents/text to the right horizontally.
  • Pagination | Enable pagination for featured posts. — I checked-off the little box because I like pages “numbered” and not “previous/old or next/new” pagination.
  • Filter featured posts by featured image. — I checked-off the little box and have not idea what it means, really.

Debut: Theme Options – Logo & Header | 2012/03/08 11:45:00 AM | Last edited by FLYNN B on 20120308 at 11:48:02 AM PDT

Last night at 3/8/2012 12:53:07 AM, I “rendered” and uploaded “Wizards – Harry P 70px .png” via the CoolText.com site. As part of the “agreement” for this nice image, I included a link of the site in my Blogroll link, located under the “web design” section. I wanted to create another “logo and header” to include my “tagline” — “Mostly Rants and Other Stuff” but I got impatient with the “logo” and the different gradient colors!

So check out my Header only, sans Logo, of course. The color matches the creepy but perfect dark gray “feel” of my weblog as do the three “Dante” images located in the front/howdy page and/or sidebar as links to the RSS Feeds and RSS Comments.
