Here is an image of a Carabola/Starfruit (or “balimbíng, saranate” in Filipino) sliced in thirds, bought at 99 Ranch Market (where produce is VERY fresh).
Maw forgot taste and is now saying: “That’s not the taste. It’s different.” Her family used to have this fruit tree growing out back in the old house, now painted baby blue.
Be sure to wash/rinse well. You can eat the skin, the texture of succulents/cactus, but without the thorns (or “tinik” in Filipino). The taste is mild, not too sweet and watery good.
