Wise cracker: “These Filipinos are messed up. I prefer a white pastor. The choir conductor should be white!”
Based on our keen observation/”spider senses” and although we are Filipinos, we prefer the new Parochial Vicar (a Vietnamese) over our current Pastor (a Filipino). After last Sunday/mid-morning mass, the PV went around the pews and shook our hands.
I expressed late afternoon how I get along better with Vietnamese, who are among my outer fringe acquaintances only, compared to us Filipinos and our ingrained suspicious nature during the Spanish regime in the Philippines.
As a matter of fact, a Vietnamese co-worker long ago expressed how she prefers doing business with white people. Her health care professionals are white folks. I prefer doing business with Asians and don’t know any Filipinos.
