Maw told stories of her late family members and life experiences from her childhood from 2100pm to 2200pm.
Lola Juan would heal people from his hometown in Kalayaan, Laguna, Philippines.
- For toothaches, he would hammer a nail into the nara hardwood post holding up the old house, which has now been rebuilt. He would ask the patient if the pain is still there and he would hammer each time and stop until the patient said there is no more pain. Lola Meling, the late step-mother of my uncle Florene’s wife, Hely, was a candidate of this treatment.
- For red eyes, he would scribble unknown symbols and/or words onto the paper of a cigarette after having emptying its contents of tobacco. He would mumble or whisper under his breathe while writing out these undecipherable cods. He then wrapped up the paper into a tiny scroll, placed the other end near the affected eye area and with the other end would blow his breath at least one time.
- For dirty bottoms of naughty children who sat and played outdoors in the forest, he would treat the sores with salt, which stung the kids to screaming in pain. Then he would place the children on his lap with their bottom skyward and proceeded to apply hot compress with a cloth that was heated up over the open flames of the pit fire, which is used for cooking food, too.
- For rashes on the cheeks of people, he would spit on their faces. I picked up a thought that he chewed something medicinal into his mouth prior to spitting a spray of healing solution onto the affected areas of the faces of his patients.
