Ack! My new ‘Home’ page is Flynn’s Paws and it shows the links to both my blogs. This means I now have twoweblog sites — one FREE under WordPress.COM as Flynn’s Blogs and one PAID under WordPress.ORG (via Yahoo! Small Business) as Flynn’s Orgone. I had to ‘Redirect `flynnspaws.com` back to `thebloggingpath.wordpress.com` via Settings > Domains because I didn’t want to loose my original permalinks (or my pretty reddish, layout).
At least there is a thirty day trial period before I decide to cancel if I don’t like this second self-hosting/small business service. (I cancelled the first one within fifteen days because I didn’t know what I was doing!) Since WordPress.COM doesn’t allow for FTP access, I’m ‘pissed’ again. This means I could do a manual upload for the posts, images and everything else (later on) that cannot be ‘merged’ from here to WordPress.ORG. I like both software, but the free version is by far easier.
I learned how to use Yahoo!’s ‘Tools for Managing [My] Site’: ‘File Manager’. For each folder, I actually used the ‘Easy Upload’ feature to install ‘The latest stable release of WordPress (Version 2.6.2)’ from WordPress.ORG. I downloaded and saved this file onto my computer. Then I placed my mouse over the zip folder and right clicked to ‘Extract all’. At first I kept uploading the zip file into a ‘directory’ incorrectly and had to delete those from the directories.
So I used my big head and the slow brain therein to come up with my answer. I had to ‘Create Subdirectory’ for each folder of the ‘unzipped‘ file. The ‘Subdirectory Name:’ MUST match each folder EXACTLY the way it appears. By clicking on the correct folder, I went through each file and uploaded those via the ‘Easy Upload’ tool of Yahoo! Again, the order in which the folders appear MUST match the upload of each file EXACTLY for each subdirectory.
My next challenge was selecting a theme from the WordPress theme directory. Once again, I employed my gray matter. It’s still smart, really. So I followed that small instruction at the bottom of the Design > Themes section of the WordPress.ORG version by uploading each folder and file with the ‘Easy Upload’ into the subdirectories. I chose Aspire 1.1.4 by InfoCreek.com theme. It’s brown and antique looking.
So there y’all have it. I just tried to ‘promote’ my site as the last of three steps for the ‘Site Solutions’ building tool of Yahoo! But the listing site of Yahoo! wanted to display a ‘Local Phone Number’. I’m not answering phones! I hate talking over the phone to faceless strangers. It’s annoying! As a matter of fact, I’ve set that phone number to fax mode; so all they hear is a recorded message and a beep. No!
