Topic # 26 – Prompted January 24, 2009: When did you realize you were an adult? Questions: Was it the credit card debt or the armpit hair? Maybe the AARP membership letters? (If you’re not there yet, how do you think you’ll know?)
—
I realized that I was a grown-up when I stopped thinking like a spoiled brat. I operated like a child would — without a care in the world. I didn’t care that all my money went out the `back door`. I didn’t care that I was living free and clear under the roof of two blessed souls. (If it weren’t for them, I’d be homeless for sure). I didn’t care about being fools.
Now that my credit card debt would never be resolved thanks in part by TPTB, I had to take action. And that meant survival. In order to survive, I sought the legal remedy of financial freedom. That was one of many options exercised thus far. The others are more public by no means.
But that was step one. The second step was finding a job. And thanks to Lena, I’ve gotten a `prosperity` piece made with love, which is not `evol` but very functional indeed. For you see within a few weeks, my headhunter landed me a job within my home zipcode.
The travel one way is around twenty minutes. I could have eaten lunch at home but that would take out forty minutes on the road and only another twenty minutes to eat, wash and dry dishes, and wash up before returning to work.
I realized I was an adult thirty years too late! Seriously, I’ve told one co-worker, who was a former co-worker at Cisco, that I didn’t know how to take care of myself. I’ve always had someone to look over me and remind me how to life the right way.
Now, it’s my turn to learn from good role models — my parents. In turn, I too promise to lead a better life as an adult. An adult learns to settle and slow down and contemplate each action, word and deed. Being a adult is simple with a strong foundation and of course some common sense, which I’ve yet to improve.
