Topic # 201 : If you had to lose one of your senses for a year, which one would it be? Which one? hearing, sight, smell, taste, or touch.
—
I chose taste. My appetite is waning. I don't care for eating. I feel fat and I do NOT like my self image, which I feel is very UGLY in today's standard of beauty. So by not having my sense of taste, I could care less what goes into my mouth and what ends up as fecal matter. At least my sense of smell will tell me if I'm eating something good.
Although my hearing is very bad, I need to hear the sounds of music, nature and chatter of both my mother and parakeets. Since my sight is astigmatic and I need my prescriptive eyeglasses to see where I'm going and what I'm doing, I prefer to keep my sight and behold the beauty of the world around me. My sense of smell is limited but at least I could appreciate the odor of burnt cooking or of stinky parakeets and the fragrance of the flowers and perfumes. With touch, I need to know how much pressure to apply in order to hold objects. I need to make sure that I'm not scalding myself with hot water or freezing too much from cold.
