In response to The Daily Post’s writing prompt: “Breaking the Law.”
I keep breaking accounting rules. I love shortcuts because I get impatient with details. I just want to finish the work in the least amount of time. I still balance each deposit batch, though.
Yesterday, I ran my tape, which summed the grand total less one line item. The reviewer said that was “un-auditable”. He showed the correct way – each check amount was added to the grand total. Sheesh.
Plus, I didn’t add two decimal places to a spreadsheet and he had a difficult time reviewing the subtotals for each customer. Some customers post for multiple locations.
I enjoy messing with him because I kinda/sorta serve as a reversed “auditor”, meaning through my lack of knowledge and inquisition, he answers correctly!
“Auditing complete” is my mantra.
So today, I failed to run a tape to itemize each check. I figured he could have fun looking for his damn numbers the hard way, since Ty already highlighted the numbers from the customer statement.
Bah!
