Happy Turkeyday! This morning there here were lots of people who attended Thanksgiving Mass. Some brought in bags of NON-perishable items. In my mind, I blessed those who gave. Then again I notice some didn’t bring in bags of food to be distributed to the poor. I wanted to curse these fixed-income, free-loading, welfare recipients but thanked them for coming to mass and offer their prayers, which faith along doesn’t mean much without action. Why would I think ill? Well, the following passage from the Bible summarizes my sentiments on certain groups of people who are OPPORTUNISTIC pricks:
Mark 12:41-44 (New International Version)
(or Luke 21:1-4 )
The Widow’s Offering
41Jesus sat down opposite the place where the offerings were put and watched the crowd putting their money into the temple treasury. Many rich people threw in large amounts. 42But a poor widow came and put in two very small copper coins,[a]worth only a fraction of a penny.[b]
43Calling his disciples to him, Jesus said, “I tell you the truth, this poor widow has put more into the treasury than all the others. 44They all gave out of their wealth; but she, out of her poverty, put in everything—all she had to live on.”
