This morning the nutter and medicated Señora Josie coughed as I passed by in front of her. She would do this sometimes and after taking the Eucharist. I try to walk to the far left of the aisle so as to not be close to her face or else I might fart. She normally kneels (for her traditional belief to kneel and go to heaven faster) at the front-most pew located nearest to the middle door to the right (or back left section) of the church. But in response, I coughed loudly too.
Today, she showed me the front and back covers to a pink booklet entitled ‘A Woman After God’s Own Heart®’ by Elizabeth George.
Yesterday, she shared two more items:
- A Hội Bác Ái Phanxicô -Franciscan Charity calendar of cute Vietnamese children all decked out in brown robes which were tied back by white cords. The sunny brightest and clarity of each photo brought some tears to my eyes. The children were dispensing water from a cute well, working among gabi-filled rivers and walking along pathways of waterways and bridges. Maw didn’t even look through all the photos and impatient shoved it back at the old woman, who sits in front of us DAILY for morning mass.
- A book `Mexicans in San Jose (Images of America)` by Nannette Regua and Arturo Villarreal. On the top left corner of one of the pages, Señora Josie showed a black and white photo of her brother in military outfit and standing to the left of her sister-in-law, who was wearing a wedding dress.
