Guess what I got? A new computer for under $1,000.00! That’s right! I’ve got a refurbished HP computer because “Omar B.” from my local Fry’s electronics said it’s “better” than a new one since the technicians “troubleshoot” the bad stuff before selling these puppies at a MUCH lower cost!
Why did I purchase this one? It’s because there is no tech support when and if my computer breaks down. With the 3-year insurance; I could bring in my broken computer instead of paying $80.00 just for diagnostics. And if the repair takes longer than 24-hours; they will lend me one! How cool is that? Neat!
Since my fingers are fast like “Speedy Gonzalez” and my activities require multiple windows, I required a fast processor, which is at 3.0 GHz! I like that! And since I have some large files, the memory is around 3.00 GB. I’m not a gamer or an audiophile; I don’t require a good graphics or audio card.
As long as my speakers and internet work, I’m good. At least the tower is small and lightweight! That’s good for when moving or cleaning. Lifting it won’t be so bad on the back! Plus, the new monitor is more horizontal, which means I can see more stretched out data to either the left or right!
The tower came with a new keyboard and laser mouse; so those two are basic. I’m reusing the microphone and two-mini speakers and one boom box. The other hardware is a bulky printer/scanner. It’s heavy and I’m considering a “http://neatco.com/” product because I have lots of paperwork to scan, file and store.
Since, I’m a nerd, I require tidiness. I don’t like junk, which is why I’m getting rid of two towers and two HEAVY CRT monitors! Unfortunately, the place in Santa Clara, CA is closed for the holidays. Therefore, I may bring those four items during my lunchtime on Tuesday after Monday’s presidential holiday.
Hopefully, I could make use of my off-site backup. It’s going to take several hours to restore my damn files, which is useless because they do nothing but take up space on my hard drive.
The closet is still full of junk! I have to find more recycling areas to get rid of old phones, answering machines, etc.! Plastics, long gowns, coats, jackets and linen are next! My god! How am I supposed to move forward and onward with my life if I cannot let go of the dusty, moldy past?
P.S. I forgot to buy a webcam in case Maw wishes to communicate long distance with our impoverished relatives overseas. But knowing human nature, it’s not our problem. It’s up to the next generation of people and computer to take care of the old stuff and bring in the new stuff.
