Here we go again. Right now, ‘Maw’ is on the phone with ‘Virgie’ of Florida who has called to find out show we are doing in San Jose, CA. ‘Maw’ is crying because of a divorce between ‘Conceiving’ and ‘Gigo-Ling’. The couple has moved on with their lives yet they are very bitter to the very end. Even their only daughter, ‘Spill-Low’ has been affected since the divorce right after high school. We know a sister in law, ‘Babel’, has always circulated bad information among the relatives.
The story goes something like this. Both ‘Conceiving’ and ‘Maw’ were friends while working as nurses up in Canada. Then they got married, first ‘Conceiving’ who is ten years the senior of ‘Gigo-Ling’, just like their daughter ‘Spill-Low’ is to ‘Jov’ — both of whom are ‘still living in sin’, if you will (pardon the pun) and second ‘Maw’ and ‘Paw’ — both of whom are still married with two children, one who has moved on while ‘moi‘ is still a single parasite living with her parents.
I don’t know what the real story behind the divorce expect what has been told to us by other. This is because we ‘outsiders’ were not at the scenes to witness the truth behind the divorce. As time went on, ‘Conceiving’ and ‘Gigo-Ling’ went their separate ways. She blamed the guy for not making enough money for the family; while he blamed the gal for not spending enough time with the family.
She would work sixteen hours and come home to assault him verbally. Her daughter would suffer the same verbal resentments too. He would get drunk, fire off his pistol into the night for some excitement and inhaled his ‘Vitamin S’ for smoking as a form of relaxation. Both were constantly fighting from the beginning the got married. Both were in love in some sick passionate way, I’m sure.
‘Conceiving’ was the only one with a green card. With that ticket to America, ‘Gigo-Ling’ was able to bring his brood of pit vipers to live with them for awhile. Then the arguments got worse as tension mounted. The ungrateful relatives (who complained to ‘Maw’ years ago of having to pay for their free loading stay at their sister in law’s house) had to move out and get their own places to live. To this day, these relatives still don’t like ‘Conceiving’ — a sentiment long shared by our paternal grandpaw, ‘Mac’.
Whatever happened between our growing years and now has been useless — nothing but strangers related by name only. No one seems to get along, always gossiping and back biting each other. The pretentiousness was so obvious even those parties have lost the meaning of family togetherness. The next generation of these unforgiving blood suckers will inherit the self-centeredness left over by the old timers of my paternal side, unfortunately.
However nasty the attitude of these knife wielding pods from Tuy, Batangas, Philippines may be to this day, no one should have to suffer the indifferences from the likes of my own relatives. ‘Maw’ thought intervening and being nice to both sides would reconcile whatever differences originated. Both ‘Conceiving’ and ‘Gigo-Ling’ still hate us for taking the enemy’s side. It always takes two to tango and both are losers for those who do not understand evil.
But ‘Conceiving’ is the one who truly lost. She sounds angry and always wants to be on top of everyone else. Instead of letting her husband keep their first house which he personally landscaped beautifully, for example, ‘Chin’ gave the husband the second house which he sold for profit — a profit she would have gotten for herself. She even paid for a hocus-pocus (via the nasty sister in law ‘Orge’) to find self-fulfilling promises of her ex-husband’s failure in life, which has not come to fruition.
His life has turned around for the better when he met ‘Ample’, someone we feel makes more intelligent sense than ‘Conceiving’. The open discussion in December 2007 by ‘Ample’ was candid and we learned she helped put the lives of her family of three children together despite the near fatal death at the hands of her enraged ex-husband, who learned of her affair with my uncle ‘Gigo-Ling’. She also rescued the elder sister of ‘Paw’ from losing her only unpaid house to the ungrateful relatives of her late husband, ‘Bert’.
I believe ‘Ample’ deserves better respect from my relatives since she is ‘legally’ the new wife. I also think ‘Conceiving’ should stay completely away from the relatives and their parties because she won’t say a word to them, except stuff her mouth from a plateful of food that goes straight to her thighs. Both wives are fat but ‘Ample’s passion for wearing lots of big jewelry matches her new man’s sense of fashion of mostly black clothing.
The point is divorces are meant to be very hard lessons to anyone who thought that happiness is expressed through the other person. This is true when both have learned to put their faith in ‘God’ first that anyone could find a soul mate, which ‘Ample’ proclaims is her ‘Gigo-Ling’. I firmly believe in second chances and there is always an angel out there to help pick up the broken pieces left over from the past.
