U.S. Senate Approves Biggest Food-Safety Overhaul in 70 Years

The biggest U.S. food-safety overhaul in more than 70 years won Senate passage as lawmakers sought to curb food-borne illnesses that cost the nation an estimated $152 billion a year.
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration would gain more power to police food companies under the bill that passed today in a 73-25 vote. The measure, backed by the food industry, public- health groups and consumer advocates, adds inspections and lets the FDA force recalls, rather than relying on companies to voluntarily remove contaminated foods from store shelves.
Maybe, now we would be able to eat less (abused and dying) meat and become more healthy by eating fresh, organic food like vegans, eh? For crying out loud folks! There’s “protein in a pill” without resorting to killing animals as foodstuff.
Anyway, I want to make sure food is “natural”; grown and harvested with love and care; and labeled properly; so we hungry American consumers can make the right choices to keep our beer bellies from ever expanding and our arteries clear of clogging materials.
As long as “big brother” doesn’t knock down our front door and “inspect” our vegetable gardens grown from GMO seeds, then I’m sure we won’t be malnourished from relying too much on other “agri-businesses” overseas.
