Today the three of us attended “Simbang Gabi”. Traditionally, Filipino families from the old towns would wake up their children to attend mass as early as four o’clock in the morning.
Maw was already dressed, walked through the small hallway, announced to moi that she will drive herself to mass, went downstairs to wake up Paw and had to wake up around 5:00am as a result.
Thank you for allowing me to have a restful sleep that night. Otherwise, I would be quite tired and irritated during today. That gave me enough energy to sit through the mass, to greet people with some effort in smiling and to fold some metal chairs later on.
So we sang Filipino music in the language and all sorts of people attended. The mass was held for about thirty minutes and then refreshments of coffee, tea, mini-pandisal with either butter or cream cheese, corned beef, soup of chicken, corn, and beans was served.
The tall Filipino guy with missing front teeth announced three set of names for their generosity: Fred, Emmer and his wife and of course Maw and Paw! Last night, I too have been generous to a fault without thinking and being clueless.
Andd as a result, “my family” will get to eat and I will get a nice surprise in the mail! (Jumping up and down).
Since I’m wide awake, I decided to go to work early, emailed the boss and hopefully will get to leave early in time for Christmas shopping or a facial hair removal job in the mall!
