This sounds like tough love, not that the parents (state-controlled government) are being mean and nasty but do so only because they love their children, who have to learn to work hard and earn money with their own blood, sweat, and tears.
Otherwise, the middle-aged adult like me would never be able to move out. I never did, predicting early on that this sort of scam would happen to my generation. Had it not been for my wise parents, we too would have been in dire financial straits. I would have been homeless, too.
But because of job opportunities in the federal and state sectors, they managed to pay their taxes and pay-off their grant-deed mortgage with cash and never on credit (cards) with my two-years savings of $10 per hour rate from my first “real” full-time job.
Later, they knew we were being cheated by the GW mortgage company (with a 30-year, variable rate contract on a $58,000 ranch home) but they had no relatives to rely for help and had to live somehow and raise a family of two ungrateful children. Thanks in part to the banksters, they survived.
Though they never had the time to enjoy vacations (because of the one-year approval system for time-offs), they made themselves useful into the beast system and are now happily retired with the pensions and government benefits. They didn’t want to burden their children, my younger brother and me.
