If the gorilla is sick, old or dying, a pack of hyenas will win a fight. This is how nature takes care of the living. But for humans, it's the opposite and quite unfortunate.
So let it be known, that being alone is not good when outnumbered by others with sharp teeth, too. The gorilla cannot have eyes in the back of its head. Some hyenas will distract the gorilla in front while some will attack from the rear. I already see a disadvantage here for the gorilla.
Hyenas have four legs and can run faster than a gorilla. A gorilla is slow and can't use its hands well while trying to outrun a number of hungry hyenas. When the pack works together, they can get the job done faster and better; whereas the gorilla is left to fend for itself.
Although the gorilla is large, it's no match for it smaller predators with smaller legs.
