Topic #93: List your rules for maintaining a healthy relationship. Like a bonsai tree, a relationship must be cared for, or it will wither and die, sitting bare on your dresser for months until you finally remember to take it out to the garbage. How do you care for a good relationship?

Be nice.
One could never be nice enough. The opposite of nice is naughty. And punishment follows naughty. Rewards are for the nice. That means say nice things and do nice things, too. And whenever there is something not nice, try to be NICE about why you disagree! Use whatever limited vocabulary to express YOUR truth. It will flow naturally. You will feel it. Don’t fight it. Don’t fight each other. Just say you are either happy or sad. If you’re feeling angry or hateful, time out. Then be sincere later one why you went the opposite way of `nice.`
Be friends.
Being friends will last. This means having things in common – music, cuisines, family values, lifestyles, etc. Without these meaning things to do during DOWN times, after the children leaves the house, it’s just you and your partner! You knew each other before the brats came along. Now it’s time to re-kindle friendship the way it’s supposed to be – let it be. One cannot force love because that’s living a lifetime of LIES!
Be happy.
Being happy makes everyone happy. When Mama is not happy, everyone’s not happy. By smiling politely, the response from others would hopefully be a smile in return. I’ve been told that last week by Theresa D., a former and current co-worker. It’s amazing how happy people find other happy people. As for me, I get the creeps.
