Today, I noticed that my renew notice for a registered domain name on my Dashboard has disappeared. Now I’m trying to “Delete Site” via the “Tools” section of my Dashboard. Here is the webpage:
Delete Blog
What is your goal?
Did you know that deleting a blog removes both the blog name and the content forever? Chances are pretty good that there’s a better solution.
Please review the options below and make sure you’ve selected the one that best fits your need.
[Select an option]
- Change my blog’s URL — Deleting a blog causes its name to become unavailable forever. If you wish merely to change your blog’s URL, please try our handy Changing a Blog Address tool instead.
- Transfer my blog to another user — Deleting a blog causes its name to become unavailable forever, even if you’re attempting merely to change the name in hopes that another user can recover it. To assign a blog name to another user, please try moving a blog to another user instead.
- Move to another host — Deleting a blog is not necessary if you wish to move to another host. You can just leave the blog intact — we promise we don’t mind. If you wish to hide the content, you can simply change the privacy options. If you wish to have your WordPress.com blog link redirect to your new self-hosted blog, you might be interested in our Offsite Redirect upgrade. Finally, if you are ready to export your content to another WordPress blog, you might find our Export instructions useful. And if doing the move yourself scares you, you might be a good candidate for a Guided Transfer, a paid service in which our Happiness Engineers do the heavy lifting of transferring your blog off-site for you.
- Empty my blog of all content — If you wish to empty your blog of all of its content but keep the blog name, please contact support, and one of our Happiness Engineers will be glad to lend a hand. Do note that once the blog is emptied, the content is gone forever, so please make sure you mean it before you ask us to empty your blog.
- Free up the blog name so somebody else can use it — At this time, there is no way to free up a blog name. Once you’ve registered a name, it’s yours. If you’re trying to free it up so that someone else can use it, you might want to try moving a blog to another user instead.
- Permanently delete the blog name and all content — Please read carefully. You are trying to permanently delete [user name here].wordpress.com. If you do not want webloggerism.wordpress.com to exist any more, you can delete it. This CAN NOT be undone. It is permanent. All of your posts and data will be gone forever on this blog. If you have other blogs, they will remain intact. If you are sure… I want to permanently remove [user name here].wordpress.com and I am aware I can never get its content or its URL back. If you could take a sentence to tell us why you’re deleting this blog we would really appreciate it. If you are moving your blog someplace else, let us know where!

Hmmm. I think I like the “Free up the blog name so somebody else can use it”. Then again, I have no choice but to “Permanently delete the blog name and all content”.
