My rude awakening was when I told the truth. By lowering my pride, I revealed my stupidity and greed. Out of compassion, an elderly couple gave me a generous birthday gift meant to help me get out of a bind. I have no other means to repay them except my gratitude and daily servitude to their needs. The only other favors were prayers to keep from going insane, a job to stay afloat during these economic hardships and financial distress, good health and nice weather. Everything else is empty.
