Wee! I’m almost done with my Lenten Season project of scanning, archiving and shredding my precious papers (made by once beautiful trees, of course). My goal is reduce the “paper monsters” that do not appear online electronically. With my new “Orgone Nano Shield in OtterBox” by Shrimpsei buzzing away with its rechargeable battery on my desk, I’ve finished all “accounts”, except one booger, which was closed for “security reason”.
Anyway, my current cellphone bill was the LARGEST. I don’t know why I didn’t sign up for online statements long ago. I guess I wanted “proof” of my “calls”. It took me a couple of days to finish the cellphone bills because I couldn’t locate ONE missing document. I kept riffing through the pages but kept coming up short by ONE!
My NeatWorks Scanner kept crashing because I would “File Now” faster than the application was able to handle. But the re-indexing works wonderfully and the files are intact.
The best way to handle such large files is to split each batch to around one hundred pages or so. The NeatWorks cannot export no more than one hundred images to one batch of .pdf file at a time. That means ONE document scanned with double sides counts as TWO exportable images.
The names I use to differentiate each one is simple: use unique names followed by dashes and then the year or other further description words. Keep the naming as short as possible to one to two words in between dashes (or underscores for the true nerds). For example: Booger-2011; Booger-2011-Various; Booger Rags-2011; and Booger Rags-2011-Various. Notice it’s the “proper noun” followed by the year and then the extra information.
Within each “Document Type” of “Receipts” and “Documents”, I have a folder for each one labeled as: “VARIOUS-UNFILED”. This means I really don’t know WTF to put these files or that I’m too lazy to create its separate folder because it’s too small or that I will come back to it later on to find homes for these records. For those who worked with the Accounts Payable Department (like moi, of course), if there is only ONE record, it goes in a “various” or “other” folder and is placed in the back of its alphabet. If the record is humongous, then create a folder or more sub-folders for easier and faster access.
For my personal computer, I have two folders: “Archives” and “Documents”. For the “Archives”, those are .nwbak files which I do NOT access frequently. For the “Documents”, those .nwbak files are smaller and contain more current files, like my time sheets at this “temp job from hell”. In other words, I’d “Export Folder(s) to “Folder File (.nrf)” and dumpt those in the “Documents” folder to pull up later on.
Tomorrow I’ll work on that “one booger” and then the rests are merely information, such as news articles, old discoveries of TPTB and yes those colorful pamphlets, brochures, booklets and VARIOUS crap for those with eyesight. It’s nonsense to keep what we cannot carry in TWO HAND CARRIES in case of evacuation during disasters.
I don’t care if the well-paid monkey trolls attempt to piece together my shredded material because those are null and void and basically invalid in this lifetime! I may archive my chicken notes, too, if I have the time. There’s a FRIGGIN’ pile of “cubicle notes” inside a copper UFO-shaped, container inside the closet and a few more inside a plastic drawer! One might say, those are other “skeletons in the closet or drawer” that needs to be cleaned out. Hahaha!
