There is a Filipino saying translated as `Thick as a pig’s skin`:
Balat ang baboy.
On occasion, we would snack on crunchy, pig skins. It’s good stuff and a source of saltiness. Last night we ate adobo made of pork. It had layers of fat and lots of it. The food was bought from Goldilock, a local Filipino restaurant in our neighborhood.
While trying to curly Maw’s hair this morning, Maw blew up again after I screamed that her radio was too loud. She accused me of being demon-possessed. She is really high on steroids from inhalers taken the night before as treatment for her asthma.
The first thing that occurred to my mind was that she had eating too much pork adobo and diniguan (or blood pudding made of pork, too) the night before last. Eating BAD pork went straight to her head and affected her emotions.
So when someone blows up unexpectedly, one should wonder if eating pork is evil, possessing people in the form of demons. Perhaps there are reasons why certain religions avoid eating an animal which is supposed to be SMARTER and more easily trained than an average canine.
Perhaps, Obama and Congress should outlaw the consumption of pork altogether! Maybe people should receive their vaccination for swine flu (H1N1). People should stop being fat hogs (or morbidly obese) for once in their lives and be healthy NOW before Obama’s health care/insurance reform bill passes.
