So after a few minutes tonight of several failed attempts at trying to cancel my ‘Windows Live Hotmail’ account manually, I’ve sent two ‘Feedback’. It’s so stupid, really.
So I followed the instructions after having read the page below:
Are you sure you want to close [whatever_ID_here]@live.com?
Important: To delete personal information you have given to Windows Live or other Microsoft services, or any other site where you use this sign-in name, sign in to those sites and delete the information before you close your account. You will not be able to access those sites after your account is closed.
When your account is closed:
- Your credentials (e-mail address and password) will be permanently deleted.
- Your Windows Live registered information will be permanently deleted. View registered information | Get help with this
- You won’t be able to sign in to Windows Live or other Microsoft services, or any other site where you use this sign-in name.
- Some information you may have provided to Microsoft will not be automatically deleted. To learn how to access personal information, see the Microsoft Privacy Statement.
- You will lose access to your contacts in Windows Live Messenger and in Microsoft e-mail (Windows Live Hotmail).
- If you have associated child accounts, any permission you’ve given for children’s accounts will be revoked, and you will no longer be able to manage these children’s accounts.
- You will no longer receive any newsletters, news updates, and other free subscriptions associated with this e-mail address.
Verify your identity to close your account:
Windows Live ID: [whatever_ID_here]@live.com
For whatever reason, I kept getting this error message below:
Cannot close [whatever_ID_here]@live.com
To close your account, you must resolve one or more of the following issues:
- One or more paid services or a Microsoft Points account is linked to your account. To close this account, make sure each service is canceled and your Microsoft Points account is closed. Get help with this
- There is a Microsoft e-mail account (Windows Live Hotmail) associated with your account, so you can’t close your Windows Live account immediately. To close your Windows Live account, you need to close your Microsoft e-mail account first. After a period of inactivity, your Windows Live account will automatically be closed. Close your Microsoft account.
- The e-mail address for your account is part of a managed domain (for example, your employer, your Internet service provider, or a personal domain). To delete your account, contact the domain’s administrator.
- This account is a secondary account for an MSN Premium membership and can be closed only by the primary account manager. To close the account, contact the primary account manager.
<OK>
Then I found this helpful article entitled: Know When Your Windows Live Hotmail Account Becomes Inactive. Since I don’t use this stupid email service regularly, I’ll have to wait 120 days (or 4 months) for my ‘Windows Live Hotmail’ account to become INACTIVE, after 210 days (or about 7 months) of inactivity to be PERMANENTLY DELETED and 360 days (or about 1 year) for the ‘Windows Live ID’ itself to be PERMANENTLY DELETED and REASSIGNED for someone else to use.
So I went to ‘Start” >> ‘Settings’ >> ‘Control Panel’ >> ‘Add or Remove Programs’ and deleted about five stupid ‘Windows Live’ related programs from my computer. Good riddance!
