Reality TV shows are so popular because people are mindless robots. I happen to have a mind not to watch reality TV because watching other people “live” waste my time and electricity and reduces my brain cells. However, there was one show I actually watched: it was about a bunch of OBESE people getting weighed on large scales. The group that lost the most weight (on average) won the game show.
People are mindless robots and cannot “get real” but expect to “live up” to the imagined “reality” created by a bunch of well-paid strangers on televised programming. In other words, people seem to be “lost” and would project what they have “learned” on the screen onto people around them and expect a predetermined outcome to manifest the course of their lives.

Why are reality TV shows so popular? It seems everyone hates them in general, but has one show they just can’t stop watching. Which one is yours? If you don’t watch any, which of the ones you’ve heard about do you think you’d be most likely to watch? What’s your theory about why this form dominates so much of modern TV?
