For this week’s writing challenge, showcase your slang.
Taglish. That’s the combination of speaking in both Tagalog and English. While most natives of the Philippine islands are too polite to offend the Americanized versions of their ancestral tongues, most would take such slangs with some seriousness. The pride that goes with speaking rapidly in a fashion reminiscent of a family of chicken looking for food among the bare soils of the plots of land goes without saying: Ano ba? Do you think I’m tanga? (A rhyme). (It translate as: Who do you think you are? Do you think I”m stupid?)
Actually, I don’t know any regional slangs off-hand because I’m not from overseas. I’ll have to research further and ask the old timers and new kids for any familiar slangs in the Filipino language.
