Looking at the skies
I see the heavens of blue
And wonder how high
I must fly to reach my God
and my Savior.
If I only had wings,
like a butterfly, surely
I could fly high enough
to reach my God
and my Savior.
So I asked the little butterfly:
“You have wings. How high can you fly?”
But the little one couldn’t speak
and took off into the skies
to show how high she could fly.
I looked on and on but lost
sight of the little butterfly.
Then I realized that I didn’t
Need to fly high in the skies
Or send my prayers there.
All I needed to do was look
down at ground level and
at eye level. All around me
there is that piece of heaven
on earth and in my backyard.
Among the flowers and upon a blue table,
there sits another little butterfly.
Right there, I saw God in a form
smaller than my heart but large
enough to show me heaven.

Author’s note: Instead of taking my own photo, I have decided to try writing poetry based on Matt’s weekly photo challenge. (Of course, this entry is late but enjoy!)
