Among the smartest and brightest,
I see only one face that matters — life.
And through my many eyes of colors,
I seek only one kind soul that would
bring life back into my solitary world.
So I smiled everyday and waited,
hoping you’d come by and stay
for awhile and drink of my nectar
and find some comfort and rest
before your long journey back home
to your hungry and growing family.
If only I could fly back with you and
be close to you and your loved one,
then I’d feed you well before winter’s cold
sets in when you could no longer fly.
But here I am. Enjoy the beauty of
our friendship as nature intended.
Author’s note: Instead of taking my own photo, I’ve decided to write poetry on Matt’s weekly photo challenge.
