I see your smile:
Wide and full of teeth
Blindingly bright
Like the sunshine of
Your soul.
But that was long ago.
What used to greet me
Your soft velvety red carpet
Became the red brick
Underneath my feet —
All dried and crack
As your love for me.
Your smile has now turned
Dull and brittle
As the beam in your eye.
Your wooden teeth
Pierces my heart
As I cry out to you:
“God! Why have you abandoned me?”
