Well, Uncle Dead is nuts! He complained of hurt feelings and how he was offended by the Ogie, the druken sailor. He may be a delusional paranoid (just like the Shillster) for overhearing a bunch of drunks laughing out loud and probably not at him!
For all we know, Uncle Dead could be trying to win sympathy from his brothers and blame it on the in-laws, just like the Shillsters (an Abu-Sayef type terrorist Visayan) does with the in-laws – blame the outsiders instead of her blood relatives.
All of them are possessed by demons.
So Paw pulled Ogie from the garage and into the sitting room near the front door and made Uncle Dead and him shake hands. The in-law had to apologize because he had NO idea that the nutball had hurt feelings, just like what the Shillster said toward Maw. But the Shillster still owes Maw an apology for being a nutball.
Anyway, Paw made Uncle Dead stand up so that he could offer a hug of reconciliation to Ogie. But they simply could not go that far. It goes to show that those relatives expect OUTSIDERS to apologize for their pathological problems. They all need sedatives for all I care, including the Shillster, the `sal-ba-he` of the cousins.
