Here I go again. I’m trying the Steira theme and have only three main menus:
- » Posts (Nom-Noms by Evil Kitty);
- » Pages (Table of Contentments) and
- » Archives (Ancient Archives of OLD posts).
And so now the “front/home” page is the latest entries (or Posts) instead of the “Contents” page.

Out of frustration and boredom again, I switched WordPress.com themes from Sandbox 1.6.2 to Steira by Made by Elephant, which as my Mosque Blue color scheme of basic gray, white and blue.
That night, I was typing the EW website address but entered .net. What I saw was a mostly purple and blue site with a service for “healing” the suckers, err, I meant seekers of alternative health solutions for mind, body and spirit. Of course, anything purple and pink denote some sort of New Age movement, much like my bowels and certain books that ring true to me of love and light.
I like the VERY simplistic site: contents on the left and sidebar on the right. There were few pages. And compared to that site, mine is a monster. By rendering my front page as a static page, readership via the seach engines online will be reduced. Again, I prefer the static page layouts. But since the themes are limited as far as hard coding, I really would have preferred the TIME stamps for the blog portion of my site.

I like the appearance of this WordPress.com theme: “Steira” by Made by Elephant. The columns are two with the table dividing the “content element” and the “sidebar element” almost fifty-fifty. Plus, the fonts are larger and easy to read, thanks to tweaking with my paid CSS upgrade. The cool color scheme, too, of basic blue and white, with a hint of grays, reminds me of the architectural wonders of mathematically precise Muslim mosques.
I almost do NOT miss the “meta data element” containing the time stamp, which could be approximated from the syndicated RSS feed to my weblog. I usually blog “on the go” and the time stamp gives my readers the time of my precious thoughts. Sometimes, the time references are entered into the body of the text. I prefer time stamps underneath the post/entry title for both archive/index pages and single view posts.
I should miss my precious sidebar widgets containing what this theme lacks in templates for “Links” and “Archives”. But more sidebar widgets add too much length to my weblog. I prefer a shorter, webpage layout instead of a stretched out version of multiple post entries. My sidebars have some images, which can be clicked. But I noticed some WordPress.com themes have “image widgets” with VERY light-colored captions!

Tonight, I tweaked my paid CSS upgrade to “hide” the “visibility” of the “navigation” element and replaced that element with a descriptive content about this site. This appears on the upper right hand corner of the blog. I know the descriptive “tagline” about this blog already appears as a “short” version below the “site title” but I wanted more detail.
As a result, I removed the “Steira “About” Text widget” and set two static pages to display “Howdy” as the “Front Page” and “Recent posts” as the “Posts Page”. Then I set the “Blog pages show at most” to only one post at a time. This is to keep the blog simple. So this means my WordPress.com site is more like a webpage than a weblog because of the “front page” displays a “static page”. And the traffic will have been decreased because the front/home page is no longer set to my latest posts.
Addendum- Last edited by FLYNN on 20101112 at 05:40:41 AM UTC: Forget it. I put everything back – posts as front/home page, top/navigation bar on top and “about this site” widget on the sidebar.

Based on my “blog stats”, my blogging days are just about over. I can’t find an ideal theme to my satisfaction.
And as a result I’ve switched WordPress.com theme to: Steira by Made by Elephant – Read more about Steira →.
The colors are basic white and blue. The sidebar contains only six widgets – four are Steira (“About” Text, Recent Posts, Categories, Recent Comments), one is a “Text widget” and one is the Meta.
I had to use my paid CSS upgrade to remove the font type – “Arial Narrow”; so now the text is more readable.
I should “KISS” this WordPress.com theme with pleasure and stuck with the motto:
“Keep It Simple, Stupid!”
And that is the appearance of my weblog – simple and stupid.

After trying yet another WordPress.com theme: Steira by Made by Elephant, I decided that bigger fonts reflects my ego in the Wu Wei theme by Jeff Ngan, who posted a nice Vimeo video of him playing a simple and soothing tune on a ukulele. I was going to post a comment but it was about his finger picks.
Originally, I set this WordPress.com theme to a darker color scheme of a LIGHT fonts against a very soft gray-color background. Apparently, someone preferred darker fonts against lighter backgrounds. So I had to take that reader’s opinion into consideration. The colors are now orange, like my gravatar of a golden-colored sun-disk.
The theme is one-column and fits nicely to a screen resolution of 800 by 600 pixels. There are three bottom (or footer) widgets. The columns vertically align almost perfectly unless I add another link to my Blogroll widget. Plus, the same `path.jpg` has been uploaded as the theme’s header.
Again, I’m hoping for more themes with hard-coded time stamps because my blog entries occur around the time my thoughts manifest or when experiences come to light. Whatever. Enjoy!
