Agh! I’ve been switching themes here at WordPress.com several times! I’m currently using:
Quentin by Mike Purdy
A rustic, older feeling and dignified two-column theme.
I like the big fonts for easier reading, the scroll image separating each post entries, the meta data underneath each post entry and the fact that it’s a narrow width for smaller screen resolutions. I am hoping for a blue-color but this antique feeling is fine for now.
Late last night, I’ve centered the contents of the `Service` page, since most of the reading is poetry.
In order to shorten the length of the sidebar, I’ve decided to remove the `Pages` widget and have ONE link appear within a `Text` widget titled `Notice`, which appears at the bottom. It’s called `Sitemap`. But I do notice that clicks were done when the `Pages` widget is part of the sidebar. Darn!
The sidebar now includes `Recent Comments` because of the `Matt’s` comment. I just like to show my support to the one who made my life sane during my UNDER and UN-EMPLOYMENT via the joy of blogging here at WordPress.com. Whatever! Carry on!
Late last night, I edited two more pages – `Welcome back!` and `Subscribe now!` What I did was to copy the two `Image` widgets and place those towards the top of their respective pages. The goal was to shorten the sidebar; since I’m not a fan of scrolling up and down!

After a few minutes of the `P2` theme, I’m trying an old theme here at WordPress.com: Quentin by Mike Purdy
I had to edit my paid Custom CSS.

Well, I’m still using the ‘Quentin’ theme for free here at WordPress.COM. Another scrollbar was added to my paid CSS stylesheet for the bottom bar (or ‘menu’) section. This is how I envisioned the look of my weblog site: a static look of the text containing my blogs above with the widgets containing researching tools and photos below. I didn’t like the idea of using the ‘main’ scrollbar of the internet browser. I like mine short and sweet (pun intended).
Only a portion of the post (or page) is seen. But for the more curious and patient readers who want to read the rest of the text there is always the scrollbars for the ‘content’ and ‘menu’ section. To spice up the look of my weblog site, I’ve changed the background color of the ‘body’ from the original ‘maroon-brown’ to ‘light cream’ and the ‘content’ from ‘light cream’ color to ‘pale weak read’. Then the clipart of red scrolls and flowers (that I originally used for the ‘DePo Masthead’ theme) is set to float right. I’ve added a solid border of 3 pixels in ‘maroon-brown’ for the ‘body’ to give the look of a frame.

It`s a great brouhaha! I`ve kept busy on my weblog site the whole day — yesterday. Besides viewing more `smiling` photos on a day of clear blue skies, I`ve constantly tested (on a post set to private) and successfully created three hover (or mouseover) images for my `static` pages: `Home`, `About site` and `Web book`.
Then I switched from `DePo Masthead` theme (which lacked certain features) back to `Quentin` theme (which had bigger fonts) and finally decided a width of 750 pixels was better than a width set to `auto` because the maroon background was not hidden and the content was more readable (or contained) nicely against the lighter brown colored `rap` section.
Last night, I learned how to set most of my `static` pages to two or three columns: `Contents`, `About site`, `About me`, `Pen name`, `Profile`, `Contact me`, `Links` and `Popular prayers`. This layout shortened the long pages almost by one-third. The readers may find this more convenient with less scrolling.
In order to draw the attention of readers better, I added hearts and bold fonts some of the links located at the bottom widgets. That`s it for now. All I do is read online articles about politics and conspiracy and forum threads on WordPress.com.

Okay, I couldn’t help myself and went back to the ‘Quentin’ theme for free here at WordPress.COM. I tried to get used to the new ‘DePo Masthead’ theme and added the nice ‘reddish background of swirls and flowers but missed the big fonts and all the other features from this current theme of rustic browns. So once again, I’ve made more adjustments to the width and set that to 750 pixels. The auto feature stretched the words within the ‘contents’ too wide. I couldn’t figure out why there was this yellow line hanging out to the right of the ‘rap’ section and found the answer could be remedied by setting the float from ‘left’ to ‘right’. In addition, I’ve decided to add more text from my ‘blogroll’ and photos for the DB books and products, which includes the working links back to his weblog site. I’m being a booger and don’t know how many times I’ve switched themes just to make everything appear perfect. I do hope this one will last for awhile.

Okay, I really need to learn self-hosting. I’m back again to the ‘Quentin’ theme because it’s cooler on my eyes and there are ‘Permanent Links’ not only to the ‘posts’ but also to each of my static ‘pages’. For the two ‘main pages of my weblog site — the ‘Home’ page and the ‘Site map’ page, I’ve tweaked the ‘div style’ code to the vertical scrollbar to a longer height of 450 pixels. The rest of the ‘pages’ remain at a height of 350 pixels for the vertical scrollbar.
I cannot make up my mind because I’m never satisfied until I get the elements in their proper place. But because I’m not technically knowledgeable in PHP and SQL, I’m still here at WordPress.com and not at WordPress.org. I wanted my page to be the height of at least the height of a computer screen (to avoid using the main scrollbar of the internet browser) But since this is not practical in a business world, I’ve decided that my ‘Blog pages’ show at most is 2 posts’ (via Settings > Reading of the Dashboard). So this means one post stacks up nicely on top of the other at 350 pixels.
I know there will be more modifications. In the meantime, I’ll think of what else to add to the sidebar. I do hope ‘Google’ doesn’t pick up the images without permission. But that cannot be avoided. Also, I’ve been testing the screen resolution between 800 by 600 pixels and 1024 by 768 pixels. The images of the two main webpages barely show up with smallest resolution. The next largest screen resolution accommodates both my main webpages and the ‘text widgets’ to the ‘Signed books by DB’.

Ack! I’ve outdone myself again. For the past two days, I played around with the free themes via WordPress.com and decided to keep the ‘Quentin’ by Pike Murdy. It’s ‘a rustic, older feeling and dignified two-column theme of two columns, fixed width and brown color, which blends nicely with Gustave Dore’s illustration for ‘The Divine Comedy, Paradisio, Canto 28′. The photo credit belongs to Wikepedia.org, by the way. I’ve set a hyperlink to the ‘Front Cover’. So hopefully this ‘fixes’ my ‘web-book’ and people could turn the pages with the ‘right arrows’ located just above my ‘copyright’ information for each turn of the page.
What I really like about the ‘Quentin’ theme are the large fonts from the ‘Georgia’ family. The more myopic readers would appreciate words that scream out from the black color (#000000) against the yellow, brown background. Eventually, I found that the white color (#FFFFFF) of the background was too bright and hurt my eyes. Even the pale letters against the light brown background of the ‘Treba’ theme by Phy strained my stained my eyes as the small font made reading almost impossible through my thick eyeglasses.
Without my paid CSS upgrade, I thought I was going to keep ‘Treba’ but decided to work with ‘Quentin’ and force the layout I wanted. My goal was to wean myself from the top navigation bar and I discovered the versatility of the ‘text widget’ for the sidebar. But I still wasn’t happy with the fact that sidebars ‘crowded’ out my main ‘contents’. So I played around with the ‘width’ again and came up with ‘730px’ for the ‘content’. The bottom scrollbar disappeared as a result! I was on my way to make this puppy perfect.
By setting the ‘borders’ to 3px temporarily, I studied how the codes affected the layout of this theme. And, lo and behold, I stretched the width of the sidebar (or ‘menu’ code) and knew I was on to something. I then went back to the Design > Widgets and removed everything, leaving one ‘text widget’ and the ‘search widget’, which I later placed on top. I didn’t like how the other widgets were stacked up on top of each other vertically. I wanted to maintain the horizontal look of the ‘sidebar’ and found that the two remaining ‘widgets’ work nicely way on the bottom.
Also towards the bottom of each post, the reader would have to click ‘Older Entries’ and ‘Newer Entries’ located on the left and on the right, respectively, after each post. This was due to setting the display to one post instead of the original ten posts per page via Settings > Reading > Blog. My desire was avoid scrolling up and down and all around just to read one blog entry after the other. I opted make my readers work hard to learn anything. I know I’m mean. But that’s me in a nice nutshell of one blogger’s addiction to perfecting the ideal website.
The next monster was dealing with the many pages. I’ve read a little hint from the ‘WM’ feed of ‘Shrimpsei’ about ‘losing the contents’. My mind assumed by reading between the lines and too much for my own good. But this was a good thing because I realize that the ‘Table of Contents’ was too large. I then read more hints via the WordPress.com forum about using the <!– -nextpage- > feature to my advantage. I spent the whole day reworking ALL my pages, including ‘Front matter’, ‘Chapters’ and ‘Back matter’. Then I deleted the redundant pages, which noone seems to read anyway.
Then I made use of the caption feature for the images and learned how to use and ‘alt’ to provide descriptions as the pointer from the mouse hovers over the image. This saves the writer time and reduces the lines entered into the body of the post entries. I also saw how the ‘EY’ site of ‘Ken’ made use of the captions for each photo showing SS folks. I didn’t know that Hitler still lived despite the stories of his apparent suicide after his loss to the WWII.
The war now is with me. Besides the many scam-filled, failures by those defrauding, puss-heads, who are banksters ‘connected…in the “network,” for over eight slong years, I found peace with my newest look to ‘Flynn’s Blogs’, which should be renamed ‘Flynn’s Paws’. So rightfully so does the claws of my kitty cat that must scratch out the eyes of those who do not read my blogs, which contain many leads and hints about the world and people from politics to religion.
Anyway, I liked the new ‘Tabular Stats’ feature to members of WordPress.com. I have yet to make sense of all the numbers. All I know is that the stat for the ‘Top Posts & Pages’ is off because each time I log off, there seems to be an increase to the ‘Home’ page by one count when I log back into my site a few minutes later. I don’t know what else to do with this ‘Summary Table’, which is located towards the bottom of the Dashboard > Blog Stats and in between the ‘Blog Stats’ to the left and ‘Incoming Links’ to the right.
Right now, I’ve better stop this addiction to blogging and watch the remaining events to the Summer Olympics 2008 in Beijing, China via cable programming; since I don’t smoke and drink (but eat heartily that I’ve gained back the pounds). So there you have my activities. I am hoping for newer themes here at WordPress.com but my new theme will have to do for now. There is nothing like a compromise between a blogger without much CSS knowledge and self-hosting site than here for ‘free’ at WordPress.com.

So here’s the deal. Today, I’ve been keeping busy with cooking, cleaning and gardening by chopping onion, garlic, tomato for a sauce, by washing, drying and putting dishes away, and by watering the plants, flushing out the soaping birdbath left over from ‘Maw’ washing a green bean containing ‘insect soap’ and harvesting eggplants, tomato and jalapeno and Anaheim peppers, respectively.
Other than the clear blue skies and nice weather, I played around with my weblog site again. This meant overhauling the pages in a very particular order. I’ve re-used three old ones and created two new ones: links (in place of the blogroll widget) and photos (in place of the Flickr.com widget). My purpose was to wean myself from the top navigation bar and opt for a cleaner look with a side bar containing one ‘Main Menu’, a title for the one ‘text widget’ that I couldn’t name until a few minutes ago after sampling the ‘Vermilion Christmas’ theme via WordPress.com.
Tonight, I also tried other themes ‘Simpla’, ‘Ocadia’, ‘Dusk’, ‘Fleur de Lys’, ‘ChaoticSoul’ and ‘Fresh Banana’, which I found to be the cleanest theme via WordPress.com. However, none of these free themes suited my taste. I wanted a theme with: a very clean two-column feel; extra large fonts with ‘Georgia’ style; a deep jewel, background color and not a bright, pastel faded look; the meta information for category, tags, and both the date and time stamps for each post entry and not necessarily for the page entry, and of course, the images must be automatically resized to fit the ‘content’ or ‘page’ section of the blog.
And I found my newest theme to be: ‘Quentin’ by Mike Purdy, I think. At least, it has both the ‘Blog Title’ (above) and ‘Tagline’ (below) display quite bolding on the very top with a thin border and a backward letter ‘S’ separating the blog entries below. So yeah, and after accidentally spending an extra year’s annual renewal for the CSS upgrade, I think I will have to ask the ‘support’ for a refund at the going value of 15 credits. I realize how much terrible I am with editing the CSS stylesheet. But at least I tried and learned a few basic CSS codes and how modifications make a web page pretty yet functional.
Let’s see how long I’ll last with this free theme. As mentioned in my previous blogs, I’ve gone through all the themes and still am not quite satisfied. I’m better off here than self-hosting via WordPress.org because I don’t know what is a ‘FireFox’, an ‘SQL’ or a ‘PHP’. All I wanted was something free that had the look and feel of a website. The ‘Domain Registration’ is the only other 15 credits that wasn’t free. It allowed me to get a domain name, which is currently: [http://atomic-temporary-205524931.wpcomstaging.com]. I like it because it has my nickname and the ‘paws’ reminds me of kitty cats.
