Analyne M. S!#rr@, my first cousin, threw away all her family photos after her mother died long ago. Her brother, J@y J@y, retrieved some if not most of it. I have yet to find out if this is true via Facebook if I have the nerve to add him as a friend.

Although throwing away these old photos symbolizes getting rid of painful memories of an abusive mother and emotional father, this doesn’t mean Analyne is less of a Filipino. She and her family were once poor, like most of my relatives. It doesn’t mean it’s bad as long there is food on the table.
It’s bad when younger generations forget their parents, grandparents and relatives — their attitudes and behaviors, too.
By discounting the past, one throws away a piece of hearts. They also throw away connection and association from those that used to love each other during happier times.
