Tasting Wine

Paw, the boy and I just came back from tasting wine. That would be the first time for Paw and me. It is an `open space reserve` for outdoor activities, such as hiking. We took a couple of pictures overlooking the valley below. There were fluffy, puffy clouds of white in the distant horizons. Lots of trees, dried leaves and debris were everywhere in this winery and park.

The boy has told us that he has been taking one glass of red wine a day after work. This is supposed to open up the blood vessels. In my mind, I would imagine that blood vessels would be cleaned out of cholesterol and triglycerides, too. In two weeks time, his two bottles of `red wine` will have been finished:

  • 2008 Pinot Noir
    • 2008 Pinot Noir, Truchard Vineyard, 500 Cases Produced. A classic Pinot Noir from the famous Truchard Vineyard in the Carneros region of Napa Valley, this vintage was barrel-aged in French oak. The nose of concentrated red fruit, raspberry, dried cherry, and cranberry opens up beautifully to a silky and smooth mouth feel, with subtle tannins and a very long finish.   Classic pairings with a Pinot Noir are Boeuf Bourgogne, gruyere, smoked duck and wild salmon.  For a special treat, try it with a Gorgonzola cheese.  This is elegance in a glass!
  • 2007 Port
    • 2007 Port, 424 Cases Produced. A luscious fortified port wine blended from our Saratoga Zinfandel vineyard and a Paso Robles Petite Sirah vineyard.  The beautiful fruit from the Zinfandel complements the richness of the Petite Sirah.   Expect jammy cherry, plum and black pepper flavors to emerge along with a palate of vanilla, smoke and clove on the finish, with lovely silky tannins.  This wine is perfect for sipping at cellar temperatures with Stilton Cheese or rich chocolate, both of which are classic pairings and superb!

He even purchased a Wine Club Membership. That’s for 15% off on two bottles of Pichetti wine.

The boy even paid $5.00 for wine tasting, which Paw and I shared. In the following order, which was supposed to have been the lighter or `white wine` first, followed by `red wines` and then `fermented wines`:

  1. 2007 Merlot, Santa Clara County
  2. 2006 Vino di Vicino
  3. 2007 Chardonnay, Leslie’s Estate
  4. 2004 Reserved Angelica
  5. 2004 Mission Angelica

Paw and I liked the fourth one and purchased it. It has 16.8% alcohol by volume and is best as a dessert wine. As a matter of fact, it tasted very sweet and had lots of wooden oak notes to the swill. After just the one-half shared taste of the second wine, Paw was already laughing. He has detoxed his body so well that the stuff hit his system faster than mine.

I, of course, was very talkative during the ride home. You see, my astrological is a Sagittarius, a fire sign. Also, my paternal side happens to be jokers. If we imbibe in alcoholic beverages for just a few mouthfuls, we would be VERY social indeed. Usually, I’m supposed to be quite, reserved and shy. But this afternoon, I’m less inhibited. So you know what that means!
