Last Saturday evening, we had a special guest – someone who traveled all the way from San Diego, CA. He was a priest with beady little eyes. I didn’t like the looks of his eyes. They were shifty looking.
Anyway, he said that night’s sermon, which was mostly begging for money, err, I meant donations to feed the poor. There were envelopes of a black little girl with plaintive big eyes looking up at the camera. She, along with countless others, died from starvation.
Now what is wrong with asking for some food money? I didn’t like how they used the image of a dead girl. It was gross. When the priest encouraged others to pass those damn envelopes along the pews, I shoved those into the nook of the book holders in front of us.
Most of the parishioners were not very generous. Most of us got tired of the shenanigans of the place of worship being used to fund shady organizations. We know that the money won’t go where it’s truly needed, except into the pockets of the administrators and such.
“I am hoping someone here would write out a check for $2,600.00”
~Old white-haired priest as he held up the envelopes high up in the air for everyone to see…
I thought to myself: “Freak! There are lots of poor folks here in the Bay Area! Go back where you came from!”
“Fr. Michael didn’t look enthusiastic about the whole ordeal.”
~Observant Maw about people and her surroundings as usual…
