- Delete the pronoun reference altogether. E.g. “Every trustee (i.e. Pete) should exercise his “fiduciary duty/responsibility” as soon instructions are delivered to him by a lawyer.” Just strike out “to him” in this case.
- Change the pronoun to an article. E.g.: “An author (i.e. DB) may borrow/steal any of my blog entries in preparing his novel.” Replace “his” with ”a.”
- Pluralized, so that “he” becomes “they.” E.g.: “A student should avoid the dangers of guru worshiping that might lead to spiritual harm of his path.” Rewrite as follows: “Students should avoid the dangers of guru worshiping that might lead to their spiritual harm.”
- Use the relative pronoun “who,” especially when the generic “he” follows an “if.” E.g.: “If a student cannot use “common sense”, he cannot be expected to overcome the traps created on this hellish planet.” Rewrite as follows: “A student who cannot use “common sense” cannot be expected to overcome the traps created on this hellish planet.”
