Yesterday, Maw listened to her new Crosley radio. She had some guitar and mandolin music playing on CD.
For the first time, I decided to show her four CD’s from long ago and pointed out the youngest member of the group. She said he looks like a gang member. I told her that they are religious boys. I stared at the cover albums and was saddened to see that they were indeed smiling thugs.
Today, I recall a conversation from two guys from the past. One was part Vietnamese. The other one was part Samoan. They both asked Maw:
“What do you think of Japanese people?”
Like so many older and some younger Filipino, Vietnamese and Chinese generations, they would reply in the negative. I was dismayed at the truth for old sentiments will never go away. History books will continue to hide the atrocities of the past and post positive feedback of lies instead.
My thought today at work was the feeling that those same enemies (now supposedly the American’s business partners) continue to screw me from behind. Who would have guessed that instead of using the bayonet to kill the innocent during the world wars, they would dare slice my heart open with deceit and lies and allow me to bleed a slow death?
