Off-topic thoughts: I tried FB for a while and decided that only stupids/crazies participate among themselves. FB is just a box, sans sand/chocolate/Schrodinger’s cat/whatever.
Taking the author’s bullet points, not in the butt, but to heart, here are my thoughts:
1. Cheap. It’s a cheap thrill and nothing more. Remember that the price is your activities “shared” on someone else’s computer/database when you’re on FB next time.
2. Politicized. Do you remember the “script book” during high school? Well, I do and I entered nice information in it! It was PUBLIC. I made my PRIVACY, PUBLIC! And the people got a good laugh!
3. As satisfying as crack cocaine. It’s an addiction. Everytime my younger brother “visits” us he is always on FB. That says alot about his character and his connection with his OLD family.
4. Dishonest? I’ve learned that many people on FB are dishonest. Twice I shared their dark secrets (old photos of my first cousins parents dating now divorced) and corrected disinformation (new photos of father and son enjoying wine which the former never enjoyed).
5. A substitute for other intimacy? Pornography is NOT good, period.
In conclusion, I don’t find any value using FB. People only put up their “best faces” to cover life’s tragedies and hope that other will “like” them for who they are and NOT what they have really done/gone through to get to where they are… Get it? No? Too bad! Idiots!
