Do-it-yourself fiberglass screen replacement for your backdoor.
1. Buy new fiberglass screen from your local hardware store. We got the 36″ by 91″ deal.
2. Get your tools.
Screen installation tool
- The convex roller on one end – to push the replacement screen into spline‘s groove
- The concave roller on the other end – to push the recycled/reused rubber spline
Philip/screwdriver
- To remove the cheap plastic screen door handle.
Utility knife or something small enough
- To lift up plastic rollers of the screen/door from the groove/track of its frame.
- To pry out the old rubber spline, which is usually still good to reuse.
- To trim the excess/new screen after installation.
Optional tools:
Dry wall spackle tool and regular hammer
- To do the same job as the concave side of the screen installation tool.
3. Use your brain.
- Remember the direction of your old/removed rubber spline thingy!
- Line up spline and fiberglass carefully. We started/tapped the splines at the “top”, then one/long side, then the bottom, then the other/long side.
4. Estimated time of completion (if y’all know what you are doing) is 15 to 20 minutes.
