“I pray for you!” Maw hugged me and almost shed a tear. Later Paw came over and hugged me too: “You did it” A few minutes later (12:04 pm), “You saved me $150!” I replied: “That’s $200 for you!” Haha!
Behold! For about three hours; while listening to “El Rushbeau” and at around 11:45 pm, I’ve repaired Maw’s sewing machine (Brothers Project Runway Limited Edition). Maw wanted me to sew a “zig-zag” stitch for the arm holes to my new pajama gown but I refused.
And as she continued quietly, the machine jumped. It stopped and the main knob wouldn’t budge. The error message showed E1 and E6, which, according to the operating manual, was a stuck thread. That’s NOT correct but a start and my mind whirred to find a solution to Maw’s distress. (You see, once she starts a sewing project, she’d like to complete it within a few days.)
So I ended up taking the sewing machine apart and tried to figure out what went wrong. Round and round, I turned the knob and felt through my hands how the contraption simply wouldn’t move but with great difficulty.
Then my big brain tried the next course of action – oil! that’s right! With Paw’s Wahl (hair clipper) oil, I put a few drops for the moving parts. The knob started to move with ease. But I felt some “crunching” still going on.
I applied a few more drops in smaller areas that I missed, such as the arm that goes up and down and then lots more for the two MAIN arms/cranks running horizontally across the top (for the vertical arm on the left) and at the bottom (for the bobbin on the bottom). In this area, I cleaned the plastic/white/wheel “teeth”. It had dirt in between.
With vacuum at hand and a few more tools, such as a long hat needle, a wooden toothpick and a couple of paper towels, the sewing machine is repaired, oiled and cleaned. Voila! Reverse engineering expertise from a un/deremployed Filipina. I wonder how much I’m REALLY worth out in this damn “real world/economic market”.
