Write a story about yourself from the perspective of an object, thing, animal, or another person.
Photographers, artists, poets: show us PERSPECTIVE.
This human female, Flynn. She annoys me. Everyday I scream out to her. But she is too busy or deep in thought. Every time she passes by our cage, she ignores my screams.
“Treat! Treat! Eat!”
I call out in hunger. But she is nowhere to be seen. I last saw her go upstairs. The other day and mostly daily, she would leave through the garage door. Other times she is elsewhere in other rooms.
I would cling to the side of our cage in the hopes of getting of her attention.
“Cha-cha-cha! Screech! Screech!”
I know she senses that I’m hungry. But for some reason she takes a long time to act on her thoughts. I wonder what is wrong with her.
I’d fly inside the cage and hover around like a helicopter, like Buddy, my older bother. Sometimes I’d jump from one branch to the other. I could barely fly between two mirrors on either ends of the cage.
Finally! She notices the dirty tray! After she scrapes out the dried poop, throws out the old food, and replaces our reptile dish with avian cakes, some dried seed, and maybe dried grass, I’d stop screaming.
I’d cock my tiny head to one side and look at the food dish with one eye. My eyes no longer bugged out of their sockets from stress but have taken on a softer look. My cheek feathers fluff out with relief.
Wait! I’m going down, too! Winnie and Buddy are already eating. Mel is my name and I’m the loudest parakeet of the bunch. I don’t let my disability of lacking flight feathers stop me from taking flight on good days.
It’s time to eat.
Later we will all chatter a little bit and soon we will quiet down. That’s Flynn’s signal to cover the cage with Maw’s hand-made material of light green. It will be another nice night.
Pleasant dream, everyone. Thanks, Flynn… We love you!
