A place from your past or childhood, one that you’re fond of, is destroyed. Write it a memorial.
Ode to Backyard
Snow-filled landscape too cold to play
But on hot summer days and nights, life
Abound with dewfall of white flakes or
Of rain drops or of sunrays, whatever
The weatherman predicts for good times
Mulberry bush a buzz with hornets and wasps
Mosquitoes singing praise upon sweaty blood
Spiders crawling and dropping upon screams and
Children laughing and playing characters mocking
Sword fights and imagined battles with paper machetes
Grassy lawns tickling sinuses and watery eyes
Fallen skaters cries from scraped hands and knees
Of paved sidewalks and alley – Ways of wars of peace
Among fallen bikers crashing into each others arms for
Hugs and comforts and lemonade stands, not only for coins
A swing set of fun, the center piece of attraction for apes to
“Swing” back and forth from behind their red hot plastic seats and onto
A hot aluminum pan where greasy pigs “slide” to their delight
Then their final resting places of a swinging cradle and into the arms and hands
That feed them until the next time in the backyard, where parties can be seen.
