Do you feel uncomfortable when you see someone else being embarrassed? What’s most likely to make you squirm?
Yup. Happened to our choir conductor after his second mass/Sunday morning, I think. Three seasoned members were vocal about singing their old songs. But the conductor said he was following rules, based on the new liturgy. (The three of us saw him head to the rectory to discover these “rules” prior to that mass. Wink. Wink.) Terri boldly left the choir after telling the conductor to tell them what is going on. Bahaha! So Kathy, Zen and another old fart couldn’t stop yapping afterwards. Bahaha!
If that ever happened to me, I’d flick them off with my middle finger, make spitting/hissing noises, and tell them to shut-up the f*ck up. Then in a calm voice, tell them that they are defeated and to accept the changes set upon them. Bahaha! If they can’t keep up/are NOT happy with the program, they’re dismissed. And don’t ever, ever come back. You already embarrassed yourself.
To the conductor: keep the old music and let these old farts sing what they want because that’s all they know and they sing it so well, really but introduce new/modern songs for them to ingest slowly. Hopefully, they won’t regurgitate violently and throw another fit. Again, if they don’t like it, they can leave the choir for all I care!
